It can be hard to keep up with an overflowing inbox, client demands, social media outreach, daily pitching opportunities and personal branding goals. To-do lists become harder when you don’t have a personal assistant or intern to help.

That’s where technology comes in. Though the 24/7 news cycle and social media critics have, in many ways, made PR pros’ lives more difficult, there’s a bevy of resources and apps to make your days more manageable.

Here are five tools PR pros can use today to help you with your tasks:

1. Catch up with the news with Newsbeat.  (iOS, Android)

PR pros must know what’s going on with their clients and organizations around the clock, but a savvy PR pro also stays up to date with current news and industry trends that could affect messaging, campaigns or pitches.

Newsbeat is like Pandora for your RSS feed—the app will curate news for you via a custom playlist based on chosen topics and stories that you like or skip. Though you can read the articles, Newsbeat’s editors will read them for you—meaning you can get up to speed during your morning commute or while traveling to meetings.

The service will also send you a news digest each day along with breaking news. Users can share articles on Facebook and Twitter or through text and email, so when you’re done catching up, you can share the news with your followers or team.

The app is free.

2. Increase your networking prowess with  CamCard.  (Desktop, iOS, Android, Windows, Blackberry and more)

Networking is the lifeblood of any PR pro.

Whether you’re new to the industry or a veteran communicator, rubbing elbows with prospective clients, employers and business partners is a must for any communicator looking for new opportunities or help with current projects.

It can be hard to keep everyone’s names straight, much less keep up with your growing network. That’s where CamCard comes in.

Get rid of the pile of business cards in your briefcase or on your desk by scanning them in. Then use the tool’s features to add notes, tag, set reminders and search your uploaded contacts. Contacts are synched across the cloud, and CamCard will notify you when a contact gets a new job or promotion—or has company news.

You can even use it to exchange business cards virtually.

3. Effectively multitask with OneTab.  (Chrome, Firefox)

If you frequently have more than 10 tabs open on your desktop browser, you’re not alone.

PR pros are constant multitaskers. It’s probably not uncommon for you to search for journalists on Twitter while checking your email, scanning Google Alerts, marking stories on your RSS feed and cross-referencing a competitor’s recent blog post.

However, having those tabs open eventually gets overwhelming—and it drains your computer’s memory. OneTab is a Google Chrome extension that will instantly shrink your tabs to a list. From the list, you can restore tabs individually or all at once. You can also delete in the same manner.

The extension boasts that it saves up to 95 percent of memory, so you can better flip among Photoshop, Outlook, Word and additional programs while you surf the Internet. All links are stored safely in OneTab and can be restored if you accidentally close Chrome or restart your computer.

Though your lists are private within the tab, users can also use the “share as a Web page” feature and upload the list for others to see.

The extension is free and is also available for Firefox.

4. Gather media coverage and keep track brand ambassadors with  Listly .  (Desktop)

Online content and the rise of social media have made information more available, but they also have shortened our attention spans. As a result, “listicles”—articles that contain a list of points (like this one) that readers can skim are growing in popularity.

Listly is an online community that enables users to create customized lists to share with audiences. PR pros can use the website to keep track of media coverage and interviews or curate lists of influential bloggers and social media users who could partner with content-marketing campaigns.

5. Boost your energy with  Sleep Cycle.  (iOS, Android)

Countless deadlines, Twitter trends, networking dinners and a constant stream of phone calls can leave any PR pro exhausted.

Getting the recommended seven or eight hours of sleep each night will help boost your energy, but Sleep Cycle will help even if you get only three hours. The app uses your smartphone’s sensors to analyze your sleep cycle and then wakes you up in the lightest sleep phase that’s within a 30-minute window of your alarm.
